The Name Game

Yep - there it is - the contract that says that I may keep my last name (and add his) if I was to take two shots of some disgusting tequila without a chaser! I'm a tough girl so I stepped up to the bar and took my shots like a real woman...(I was throwing up like a real man the next morning) and for that, got to keep my last name! Now, my maiden name will replace my middle name and the Lucky Guy's last name will become mine as well! No hyphen - just two last names after my first name.

It was kind of a big deal to the Lucky Guy that I take his last name and though I always intended to, it was kind of a big deal to me that I keep mine! Not sure why, but he didn't like the idea of me being Amy [maiden name] [last name] - must be some southern guy thing but, you see how that one turned out! I took on the bet fair and square and won the rights to my last name - forever! ;-)

I asked on Twitter yesterday how y'all are approaching the last-name game. Some of you will keep yours, add his, or completely change to his - one couple is taking each other's names! She's taking his and he's taking hers - how cool is that?

How are you playing the name game?

  1. Ugh. I have no idea what to do. I really want to keep my name but I also love my middle name so I don't want to give it up. Hyphenating will not work since my last name would end up being 15 letters if I added his. And I heard of an options I'd never been aware of to just give yourself an addition middle name, so you'd be... Jane [original middle name][his last name][maiden name]. That way, you would formally be known as Jane [maiden name] still, but you'd have his name in there. However, I'm not sure I like this option... *sigh* it's a sore subject, haha.
